Being an entrepreneur looks a lot different in 2024 than it did in 2004.
Given that the world is rapidly moving toward an economy built around the personal brand, the creator, it’s harder to differentiate between an artist and a solopreneur. Before you’re managing employees, before you’re selling a product, honing your craft as a creative looks very similar to being a founder before the business. How do we know the violinist trying to make a living is all that different from the lone game developer, the painter, or the tech startup founder?
We all have personal brands, we are all marketers, we are all trying to make a living doing things that make us come alive. It doesn’t have to feel like a business for us to learn the lessons of businesspeople and entrepreneurs throughout the ages.
Once you’ve taken on creativity as a way of life and decide to be your own boss, you are as in control of your destiny as you’ll ever be. It doesn’t matter if it feels or looks like a business. An entrepreneur is just someone that takes the leap, someone that decides going through the jungle might be worth it for what lies on the other side.
